Next Year Setup Information

Next Year Setup Information
Posted on 12/05/2019

During the weekend of December 6, 2019, the IT Department will run a process to open the 2020-21 school year for scheduling. PowerSchool will be available during the setup process, which will be completed by 6:00 am on Monday, December 9, 2019.

As in past years, students will be articulated to their next year school based on their current school and grade level, neighborhood school, and boundary exception. It is important that all non-resident students have a current and accurate boundary exception. Non-resident students without a boundary exception will be articulated back to their neighborhood school. To assist schools, we recommend running the Non-Resident Students report to check for students without boundary exceptions. To run this report select System Reports, then select the sqlReports tab, then look under the Enrollment reports. If you need assistance with verifying boundary exceptions, please contact Alma Diaz ([email protected]) or Yvonne Torres ([email protected]) in the Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options Department.

IT will be setting up the 2020-21 Scheduling Scenario and attaching the 2020-21 Course Catalog for all district-run Secondary schools. Any changes to the scenario set by IT should be done during the Master Schedule Preparation Workshops or at scheduling Open Labs. Training and Open Lab sessions will be offered beginning in January for site staff responsible for the technical setup of the Course Request Management page in PowerScheduler. Please sign up in Professional Learning.

The following changes will be in effect in PowerSchool as of Monday, December 9, 2019:

  • PowerScheduler will be accessible to users in certain security roles: Power User, Course Requests, View Only, Behavior and Scheduling, and School Administration. Please note, the PowerScheduler link will be hidden from schools which do not use PowerScheduler (i.e. Elementary Schools).
  • District managed schools will see the 20-21 term in PowerSchool, and in PowerScheduler the scheduling year will be set to 2020-21.
  • Charter schools must submit their 2020-21 term dates to the Charter School Office, in order for IT to configure their next year terms.
