Student Device Redistribution

While the movement of Student Devices is not the norm, student devices or carts may be redistributed between i21 classrooms on a school campus to adjust allocation of equipment to reflect classroom enrollment. Per the April 16, 2010 memo from former CITO Darryl LaGace to all principals: If the site principal has determined that movement of student devices between classrooms is necessary, please follow the guidelines outlined below and record changes in the spreadsheet tracking forms provided in order to ensure proper inventory control of student devices per Prop S/Z audit requirements.

Redistribution guidelines:

At the end of each school year, student devices and carts must either be returned to their original location OR their current location must be properly documented, as follows:

  • The principal must approve all student Device and cart redistribution and the principal will keep a master list.
  • The principal must be able to provide current locations for all i21 equipment, when asked. This is especially important for auditing purposes and when refreshing end-of-life i21 equipment with newer devices.
  • Please use the provided Student Device Redistribution Master List spreadsheet for this purpose:

Any original district labels on the devices must remain and cannot be covered up.

Android Student Devices

 Android Devices

  • There can be a maximum of 30 Android student devices stored in a cart due to electrical limitations. Additional Android devices beyond 30 can be stored and charged in the locked AV cabinet that was installed as part of the i21 classroom.

iPad Student Devices

ipads

  • There can be a maximum of 34 iPads stored in a cart due to electrical limitations. Additional iPads beyond 34 can be stored and charged in the locked AV cabinet that was installed as part of the i21 classroom.
  • If an entire cart of iPads is being redistributed from one i21 classroom to another, the account information for the Mobile Device Manager will remain the same as it was in the originating i21 classroom.
  • If individual devices are being moved, please contact the Help Desk to submit a request to have their MDM account information updated.
  • If a printer is not currently setup to print from an iPad, please contact the IT Help Desk and put in a service request to have it configured for AirPrint.
  • Apple TVs will not be moved.

Netbook Student Devices

Netbooks

  • There can be a maximum of 38 netbooks stored in a cart due to electrical limitations. Additional netbooks beyond 38 can be stored and charged in the locked AV cabinet that was installed as part of the i21 classroom.
  • The classroom printer will need to be added on the netbook once the computer has been moved. This will have to be done by the student. Click here to view printer job aid.
  • The LanSchool channel on the computers that have been moved will not match the channel in the new classroom. Instead of using the channel method for LanSchool, please switch to the Class List method for using LanSchool. Please click here to view the job aid for Lanschool Class Lists.

Example: “I have an i21 classroom for intervention math that has a maximum number of students for the day that does not exceed 27 students. The classroom was allocated 34 netbooks. Can I distribute the extra 7 netbooks to supplement i21 classrooms at my site that exceed 34?”

Answer: Yes. You may use the extra netbooks that are over the maximum number used in a particular i21 classroom to supplement i21 classrooms where there is a shortage. However, for inventory purposes, at the end of the school year, these netbooks must be returned to classroom cart where they were originally assigned.
