Welcome back to a new school year!
IT trainers have created a detailed Opening of School Guide for Power Users job aid to support schools for the start of the 2024-25 school year. The job aid covers essential items to check before and after the first day of school.
-
Training: Sessions for PowerSchool Enrollment, Attendance, Parent Portal, and Scheduling Labs are available. Please visit Professional Learning to register.
-
Transferring Active Students: The process to transfer active students before the start of the school year is open. The last day schools may transfer active students will be Friday, August 23, 2024. After the school year has started and attendance has been recorded, you MUST contact the leaving school to take the proper action. Please refer to the Enrollment Handbook for information on transferring students.
-
New Student Online Enrollment (InfoSnap): It is important to monitor the submission workspace in InfoSnap throughout the school year and work with parents to process the records in a timely manner. Applications must be delivered to PowerSchool and enrollment completed. For step by step guidance, refer to the InfoSnap New Student Online Enrollment Handbook.
-
Preventing Duplicate Student IDs – Before enrolling any student, use the District Students Search to check for prior enrollment in any San Diego Unified District school. DO NOT create a duplicate ID. Refer to the Preventing Duplicate Student IDsjob aid for more information.
-
Enrollment Forms: All changes made by the Parent/Guardian on the 2024-25 Enrollment Verification Form must be entered in PowerSchool by September 30, 2024. It is crucial to maintain current and accurate student demographic data in PowerSchool for effective school and district communications. When entering the 2024-25 enrollment data in PowerSchool, ensure completeness and update questions for parents to ‘Opt Out,’ give consent, or provide a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ response.
-
Parent Portal Access: Schools can run the Portal Access for Parents and Students report to view which parents and students have portal access enabled. To run this report, under Reports on the left-side menu, select sqlReports, and then expand the group of Parent/Student Portal reports. For instructions on how to enable access and further info, please refer to the Parent and Student Portal Administration Handbook.
-
Secondary Schools: Check that the periods and times listed in your Bell Schedules align with your committed master schedules.Bell Schedules and Calendar entries will be locked after August 27, 2024. This cutoff date will be earlier for sites that begin earlier than August 12, 2024.
-
LCFF Alternate Income Form: All schools are REQUIRED to collect LCFF Forms for all students, preferably via the Parent Portal. To assist schools with monitoring which parents have or have not submitted the form in the Parent Portal, schools can run the LCFF Form Information report. To run this report, under Reports on the left-side menu, select sqlReports, and then expand the group of Parent/Student Portal reports.
-
Food Services: Starting the 2024-25 school year, the PINs for Food Services will no longer be used. Elementary will continue to be served without student IDs. Middle and High School locations with multiple service points will now require only student ID numbers. Students can input their ID number using a keypad, or they can scan their ID barcode if the option is available. If a barcode on an ID card is not available, a student ID number barcode on an index card will be acceptable. New and transferring students will be given a temporary index card with their student number barcode. Please note that it may take up to 48 hours for new or transferring students to be visible in the cafeteria system after enrolling in PowerSchool. Please contact the Food Services Site leader first with any questions or concerns. For additional support, please contact Food Services IT at 619-605-8822.
