Please see the information below regarding changes to PowerSchool since last June:

Changes to PowerSchool Administrator

  • Attendance Dashboard - This page will allow schools to view and edit attendance for students. Please note attendance comments may not appear on this page for larger schools or if a large number of students are returned. The issue with attendance comments will be resolved in a later version of PowerSchool.
  • Buttons to export to Excel (CSV), Print to PDF, etc. - Reports and pages which allow you to export data to Excel (CSV) or Print to PDF have a new "look and feel." Note that Flash is no longer required for these buttons to work. Previously, users may have seen "puzzle piece" icons or a message about Flash being disabled on these pages.
  • English Learner Chart - This report has been updated to include ELPAC performance levels. To run this report select System Reports, select the SDUSD tab, and then select English Learner Chart.
  • Enter Attendance page - A meeting time breakdown is now available on the Enter Attendance page that shows actual minutes attended versus total possible minutes for each day.
  • Period/Day Abbreviations - Periods and days will now display the name abbreviations instead of the internal expression. Periods will also display as the sorted preference on Student Schedules.
  • Quick Lookup page - A new tab will appear for students who are taking classes at another school or if students have transferred from one school to another during the school year. The Standards tab will only appear if students have any marks entered for classes which use standards.
  • Remote Transfer security role - This role will be automatically added to user accounts in PowerSchool. Schools do NOT need to assign this role to any staff. When providing access to new employees in PowerSchool, please note that the Remote Transfer role will appear the day after access has been provided. After this role has been added to a user's account, the "security violation" error will no longer appear when using certain pages in PowerSchool Administrator.
  • sqlReports - A link to sqlReports has been added to the main menu navigation on the left-hand side of the page, under System Reports. Reports also have a new "look and feel."
  • Security Settings page - The second tab of the Security Settings page will no longer allow school users to make changes to security for the District Office "school." If changes are needed for a user's access to District Office, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance. Please note the Remote Transfer role will be hidden from the list of security roles school sites can see when making changes to permissions on the Security Settings page.
  • Standards page - Standards which are no longer in use will be hidden.
  • Student 6-8 Total GPA - This new report will list actively enrolled students at your school and the cumulative 6-8 Total GPA. An optional parameter is provided to allow schools to view students who have a 6-8 GPA less than or equal to the specified value. For example, this report can be used to view students who have a 6-8 GPA of 1.4 or less. Please note that the 6-8 GPA is calculated each night in PowerSchool. Please also note this report will only show results for district middle and K-8 schools. To run this report select System Reports, select the sqlReports tab, and then expand the group of Grading reports.
  • Student Summons Report - This report has been updated to allow sorting by Room. Previously, the report only offered sorting by student name and grade level. To run this report select System Reports, select the SDUSD tab, and then select Student Summons Report.
  • Test Results page - A new tab has been added for Score Reports. The Score Reports page can be used to view state assessment results for each student.

Changes to PowerTeacher

  • PowerTeacher Attendance page - The page used to take attendance for a single day will be updated to include a link to the teacher "Backpack" pages, for each student.
  • Quick Lookup page - A new tab will appear for students who are taking classes at another school. The Standards tab will only appear if students have any marks entered for classes which use standards.
  • Score Reports page - A new page has been added under the teacher backpack pages. The Score Reports page can be used to view state assessment results for each student.
  • Standards page - Standards which are no longer in use will be hidden.
  • Student Information in Gradebook - Old, outdated contact information for parents/guardians has been removed. Previously, outdated information was appearing under Mother, Father, EmergencyOne, etc. To view parent/guardian/contact information for students, teachers should use the Student Contacts Directory reports or use the Student Profile page, under teacher backpack pages.

Changes to Parent/Student Portal

  • Grades and Attendance page - A new tab will appear for students who are taking classes at another school or if students have transferred from one school to another during the school year.
  • Parent Portal Passwords - The new version of PowerSchool requires parent passwords to be a minimum of 8 characters for the Parent Portal.
  • Score Reports page - A new page has been added to the Parent/Student Portal. The Score Reports page can be used to view state assessment results.
  • Standards page - Standards which are no longer in use will be hidden.
