New Parent Portal Form to Track Facts for Parents

As published in the March 4 Principal Updates, a new form will be added to the PowerSchool Parent Portal on Monday, March 11, 2024. The new form is named 2023-24 Facts for Parents and will request that parents/guardians acknowledge that they have received a copy of the Facts for Parents booklet. The form will provide the parent/guardian with a link to the Facts for Parents booklet on the district website. The form will be available in the Parent Portal in English, Spanish, Somali, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

Facts for Parents is an annual publication containing updated information relevant to the families of San Diego Unified including rights and responsibilities as well as district, local, state, and federal policies that impact all students. Schools are required to provide the Facts for Parents booklet to all parents/guardians each year. The new Parent Portal form will provide schools with a way to track which parents/guardians have received Facts for Parents. Schools need to request that parents/guardians login to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and submit the 2023-24 Facts for Parents form. As the school year progresses, schools will need to remind any parents/guardians who have not yet submitted the form to complete it. Please note that this will be a new process parents need to complete each and every school year.

 If needed, schools will also be able to submit the 2023-24 Facts for Parents booklet on behalf of the parent/guardian. However, we encourage parents/guardians to submit the form themselves in the Parent Portal. If your school chooses to submit the form on behalf of the parent/guardian, the form will allow you to indicate that the Facts for Parents booklet was provided to the parent/guardian by selecting one of the following options:

  1. Sent with student
  2. Handed to parent
  3. Signed Universal Form

The Facts for Parents Tracking handbook is available to support school sites with the collection process of this new form in PowerSchool. For families with parent portal accounts who need assistance with completing the survey form, school sites can direct them to the How to Complete and Submit the Facts for Parents Survey Form video, found under the Parent Portal Resource Website in the Forms category of the Help tile.
