Changes to Exit Codes and District Exit page

Changes to Exit Codes and District Exit page for Grades K-6
Posted on 10/01/2020 at 12:10

The following information was recently shared in an email to principals. Please share this information with the appropriate staff responsible for entering District Exit information into PowerSchool.

The state has changed its exit code requirements, which affects students in grades K-6. Beginning this school year, schools may NOT use the exit code E450 for these grade levels; instead, the exit code that describes where the student went must be used.

Effective Monday, October 5, 2020, the following Exit Codes and descriptions will be added or changed for the 2020-21 school year:
•    E450 – PreK Exit. Updated to remove grades K-6.
•    T160 – Transferred to another California public school. Updated to include grades K-6.
•    E400 – Dropout (age 18 and above) or Unknown Grade K Exit. Updated to include when a kindergarten student has exited the district and there is no known subsequent enrollment in a public or private school.
•    480 – Promoted/matriculated to a California public school. New Exit Code to be used when the student finished the highest grade level at the school (like grade 8 in middle, or grade 5 in elementary school) and is now enrolled in another California public school. The California public school where the student is now enrolled must be entered on the District Exit page.
•    485 – Promoted/matriculated to a school that is NOT a California public school. New Exit Code to be used when the student finished the highest grade at the school (like grade 8 in middle, or grade 5 in elementary school) and is now enrolled somewhere that is NOT a California public school (for example, out of state, or private school).

The following reports will also be updated to reflect exits from grades K-12, instead of grades 7-12. To run these reports select System Reports, select the sqlReports tab, and then expand the group of CALPADS reports.
•    Find Exit SDUSD Students – This report finds all students in grades K-12 who have left the district and who do not have approved District Exit pages. For this year only, the K-6 students who left the district last school year are excluded.
•    Find Exit SDUSD Students - Approved Status – This report finds all students in grades K–12 who have left the district and who have approved District Exit pages.
•    Find Exit SDUSD Students - Counts – This report displays counts of approved and not approved Exit SDUSD Students at schools that the district is reporting to the state.

For students in Grades K-6 who have exited the district, the PowerSchool District Exit page must be updated to reflect where the student went. Previously, this page was only used to record exit information for students exiting grades 7-12. Please refer to the Enrollment Handbook or District Exit Page job aid for instructions on how to record district exit information.
